JUMP CUTS: Video Shorts of Rhymes, Songs and Stories Performed by Library Storytellers!

by erin

Did you know that the team of talented librarians and storytellers who entertain, inspire and educate hundreds and hundreds of babies, toddlers, parents and families at our Baby Playgroups and Preschool Storytimes perform thirteen storytimes, at four locations, every week, all year round?

We now have fun, short and entertaining videos of our staff performing rhymes, songs and short stories! Each video is just a short sample from a Baby Playgroup or Preschool Storytime. Seasoned attendees will enjoy being able to practice their favorite parts at home and newbies will appreciate the sneak peak at what AADL has to offer.

Check out Miss Rachel and musician, Sara, performing their Preschool Storytime “Hello, Hello” song. Story Laura presents several bits of her Baby Playgroups with A Tisket, A Tasket, Bell Horses with musician, Sara, Peek-a-Boo and her short Teddy Bear story. We’ll be releasing more videos as we can. Let us know what you think!

Halloween Events at the AADL!

by eapearce

We love Halloween at the AADL, and we have lots of fun events planned for other Halloween lovers, too! On Tuesday evening, October 28, adults and teens can make decorative Halloween wreaths at the Pittsfield branch of the library. On Wednesday, October 29, we’ll be celebrating Dia de los Muertos by making Day of the Dead Shrinky Dink skull charms at the Mallets Creek location. And, on Halloween itself, we have tons of activities for little ones. In the morning, at both 9:30 and 10:30, there will be a special, first-ever Halloween-themed puppet show at the downtown library! Preschoolers will definitely enjoy the Halloween storytime that morning, also taking place at the downtown library and featuring, music, finger plays, and holiday stories. Kids can come in their costumes for treats here at the library, and then join up with the Treat Parade! The library has partnered with the Main Street Association and we’re a stop on this year’s parade! For more information about any of our Halloween events, you can call or ask at any of the AADL locations. Happy Halloween!

Chillers Author Johnathan Rand to visit AADL!

by manz

Join us Sunday, October 26 from 2-3pm downtown for a visit from local author Johnathan Rand! Rand is the author of the popular children’s chapter book series Michigan Chillers and American Chillers, with titles such as Poltergeists Of Petoskey, Dinosaurs Destroy Detroit and Great Lakes Ghost Ship.

He will talk about how he became a writer and how reading and writing are necessary in life. Books will be will for sale and he’ll be signing books after the event! Come give him a high five and ask him why he writes the books he does.

If you head up north, I recommend a visit to Chillermania! in Indian River. It’s the world headquarters for Rand’s books and a spookyish book store chock full of Rand’s books! It’s a feast for the eyes. I walked in this past spring and had a ton of fun.
