Special Badge Opportunity: 2500 points for Monday Night's Board Meeting!

by eli

PUBLIC, ENGAGE! We have a ONE-TIME Badge Opportunity for you tonight at the monthly meeting of the AADL Board of Trustees! They're elected by the public, and they work for you to set policy and strategy for your library! AND TONIGHT ONLY, July 21st at 7 PM, we have a special badge, PUBLIC COMMENT MASTER, that you can only earn by making a public comment to the Library Board during their meeting! There's a 500 point code for attending the meeting, a 1000 point code for commenting, and a 1000 point badge for doing both! That's 2500 POINTS and all you have to do is tell the Library Board what you think!

Arrive just before 7 PM tonight to the 4th floor meeting room at the Downtown Library and sign up to comment. If you miss that, there is another opportunity to comment at the end of the meeting. You'll find one code on the wall near the entrance, and the special commenting code on the podium! This is your chance, no matter how old you are, to tell the Library Board what you think... and GET POINTS IN THE PROCESS! It's as civically engaged as you can get, and it's a great chance to see how YOUR library is governed! Don't miss this opportunity! Hope to see you there, and as always,

THANKS FOR PLAYING!

I entered both codes but the badge isn't "earned" and I wasn't awarded the 1000 points for earning the badge

Thanks for the info eli, though it came too late... Alas, parents have decided no after art class was added to today's scheduled and they had enough of driving after just coming home. Looks like me attending the board meeting will have to wait till some other summer :(

I couldn't make it tonight either, but if I had been there I would have let the board know how grateful I am to the library staff for all the time and creativity they put into making such interesting and enriching programs for all ages. The summer game is something I do with my kids, and the earning of badges challenges me. Participating has led me to read books I had never heard of but found searching the catalog for codes, and to learning all sorts of interesting history, pop culture and lots of other good stuff while researching things online.

We look forward to camp aadl every year.
Thank you!

I was not able to attend the meeting as I was working. Such a bummer to :( maybe next year.

Thank you AADL for the opportunity to speak. I really enjoyed hearing from my fellow summer gamers. I hope that next time I'll be able to match faces/names to aadl website handles. Cheers!

The people who attended could say their game name and what they talked about to "introduce" ourselves. I mentioned adding orphaned media to the catalog: 8mm projectors, zip drives, etc.

How do the patrons who spoke to the board know the board's response to their comments/suggestions?

We talked about the new parks we've been to and saw 2 deer and a badger. I am "Tom" and my daughter was Lydia "Lat". I think we are both in the top 20 of the Leaderboard. It was nice to talk to Eli for a minute and hear his stats, too. We are always impressed by the dedication and intelligence of the Board, Josie and Eli. Thanks for a great Summer Game and a great library system.

@ Latitude and Tom

Your presentation was great! Nice to (sort of) meet you! Sara

@sara @Tom @Latitude

I remember y'all! @sara, I loved your idea about getting more shared resources available for older technology. Makerworks would be a wonderful resource to tap.

@Tom and Latitude, your presentation still has me giggling. Loved it!

I black out whenever I speak in public due to overwhelming shyness. I think I mentioned loving the summer game and how much the library has helped me become part of the community since relocated from the South.

@beeniepie

Do you have a 2-year-old son and you first moved to Detroit? You didn't seem at all nervous when speaking. Glad you wound up in Ann Arbor!

@sara, my son's now 3.5 and was an infant when I tried finding baby-friendly activities when I moved to the metro-Detroit area in the dead of winter.

I think there was someone else with a two year old who spoke before me. I was the not-so-entertaining speaker that went on after @Tom and @Latitude.

I just got back from Zingerman's Deli. 500 points was a very happy surprise alongside my yummy lunch.

Thanks to all of you for coming and for your ideas and suggestions! The threaded comments thing is a particuarly good one, we really need that this year and it should be pretty doable. Stay tuned, and THANKS FOR COMMENTING!

The summer games is getting me out for things I never would do otherwise. It was fun to go to the meeting.

I'm sorry I missed the meeting this year. Maybe next year there will be more than one chance to attend a meeting for those of us that couldn't attend.

Couldn't get out to this myself but it's a cool idea. Maybe there will be multiple opportunities to earn this type of badge next year, for people on different schedules, etc. I realize multiple board meeting events isn't a workable idea, but maybe just moderated feedback type of sessions?
