Lenny the Leprechaun One day there was a leprechaun named Lenny. He lived in New York City. Lenny had a lot of leprechaun friends. His friends liked everything about him except for one thing. He was friends with a human girl. The girl’s name was Becca, and she was 10 years old. Now that doesn’t sound so bad, does it? It isn’t, or should I say wasn’t, until one day when Lenny did something that all leprechauns know not to do. He showed Becca something that no other human has ever seen before. But what he showed her is something that you will have to find out later in the story. So enjoy! One day, Lenny was in his tiny little hut reading his novel called “Tricks All Leprechauns Should Know” (that he bought at Books and Leprechauns) when he started to get bored. “Hey!” he thought, “I should go play with my friend Becca.” So he went to her house, which was about 5 minutes from his house for a leprechaun to walk. (He actually lived in the corner of her back yard.) He went up to her front door and walked in. He could walk in because when he first met Becca she had made a tiny little door that he could walk in by himself. “Yoo-hoo,” he called. “Becca, come out, come out, wherever you are.” But no one came. He went upstairs and found Becca sitting at her desk not looking very happy. “Don’t be sad,” said Lenny. “Just be glad! What’s wrong that you are acting all sad?” “Oh hi, Lenny,” said Becca gloomily. “It’s just that I’m on break from school, and I don’t have anything fun to do, so my parents told me clean my room. It’s not fun at all.” “Well, how about some leprechaun magic to brighten up your day and help you to finish cleaning your room?” said Lenny. With a wave of his magical hat, all of the things that were out of place, magically flew to where they belonged. She was amazed. It was very cool. “Thank you, Lenny!” she said. “That really brightened up my day.” “What Page |1 Lenny the Leprechaun Page |2 Lenny the Leprechaun should we do now?” asked Lenny. “Well, I have to go out to eat with my parents now, so I will see you later,” said Becca. After Becca left, Lenny went back to his hut. He had some thinking to do about how to help Becca. He thought and he thought, but he couldn’t think of anything. He wanted to do something special with her. He just didn’t know what. Then he thought of something. He would take her somewhere where no human has ever been. He would take her to the Royal Leprechaun Castle that was made entirely out of gold. All the leprechauns kept their gold there. He was so excited that he couldn’t sleep that night. The next morning, the first thing he did was run over to Becca’s house. “Becca, Becca! I have a special surprise for you today. Hurry, and get ready. You are really going to love it!” he exclaimed. “Okay, okay. I’ll get ready, and I’ll meet you on the porch after I get dressed and have breakfast.” said Becca. Lenny tumbled down the stairs and ran off the porch. All the way he muttered to himself, “This is going to be so much fun!” When he got to the porch, he started singing a little song to himself that went like this: “Today I am going to take my best friend Becca to the coolest place in the world. She is going to be so happy with me, she is going to laugh and shout with joy!” He was beginning to get impatient. He had only been waiting for about 5 minutes, but he was just so excited, he couldn’t help it. When Becca finally came out, he grabbed her shoelace and started to pull on it. He would have pulled her arm if he could have reached it. “Where are we going?” asked Becca. “We are going somewhere that is very special to all leprechaun kind – somewhere that no human has Page |3 Lenny the Leprechaun ever gone before. We are going deep into the woods of leprechaun tricks to the Royal Leprechaun Castle that is made entirely out of gold.” answered Lenny. Becca said, “That’s awesome, but are we almost there? I’m about to trip over my shoelace that feels like someone is pulling on it.” “Oops. Sorry. Ha ha. That would be me pulling your shoe lace. We’re here! Look!” said Lenny. “Wow! This place is amazing! I love it, and there is even a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow over there and wow, there is a leprechaun in the pot of gold!” She exclaimed, “There’s a leprechaun over there, and another over there, and another, and a whole group of them, all dancing the Can-Can!” “Do you know all of them?” asked Becca. “Oh, yes.” said Lenny. “Those are all of my cousins. There are Benny and Denny, Bobby and Robby, Toby and Koby, Devin, Kevin and Constantine the 22nd. Let’s go inside the castle, I am sure you will love it.” “Lenny, I would love to go inside the castle with you. It looks totally amazing, but I am kind of big and I don’t think I will fit.” said Becca. “Aww. Shucks.” said Lenny. “This was going to be the best outing ever, just you and me, but now your size has totally ruined the whole thing.” Lenny was very disappointed. “It’s okay,” said Becca. “No, it’s not,” said Lenny. “We are going to fix this somehow. I am going to find old Papa Leprechaun and we are going to fix this.” And with that, Lenny went off to find old Papa Leprechaun. When he did, he told him the whole story. Papa Leprechaun wasn’t very happy. “Lenny,” he said. “I have told you many times to never, ever, bring humans of any kind into our secret hideout in the forest. Especially to our most special place the Royal Leprechaun Castle? Why did you do this?” “I am so sorry, Papa Leprechaun,” said Lenny. “I didn’t mean any harm. It’s just that I felt so bad for my friend Becca. She was so sad and bored, and her parents made her clean up Page |4 Lenny the Leprechaun her room. Can you believe it? They made her clean up her room on such a perfectly wonderful day! What kind of parent would make their daughter clean her room on a perfectly wonderful day? Sorry, back to the point.” Lenny said sadly, “I felt so bad for her. I had to help her and this was the only thing I thought of. I worked so hard and now I realized that she can’t fit inside the castle. It’s so unfair!” Papa Leprechaun sighed, “I’m very sorry Lenny, but I cannot help humans that should not be here in the first place.” “But she is special!” argued Lenny. They argued on and on and on until finally, Papa Leprechaun agreed to help Becca. But, she would have to take the pledge to be an honorary leprechaun. She would have to promise to always be kind to leprechauns everywhere and keep all of their secrets. Lenny thanked Papa Leprechaun for his decision and went to get Becca to take the pledge. When he got to Becca, he told her everything and filled her in on the details of the deal with Papa Leprechaun. She was very excited and eager to become an honorary leprechaun. When they got to Papa Leprechaun’s hut, he had to come outside because Becca couldn’t fit in. She took the pledge and promised to be kind to all leprechauns everywhere. “Now you are an honorary leprechaun,” said Papa Leprechaun. “Are you going to help her?” asked Lenny. He was getting impatient. “Yes, I will.” said Papa. “Here is a special locket shaped like a little leprechaun. Inside it has a special gold powder, and when you sprinkle it on yourself you will shrink down to leprechaun size. Whenever you run out of dust, come back and see me and I will refill the locket.” said Papa Leprechaun. “Thank you so much for all you have helped me with,” said Becca, “but there is one more thing I would like your help with before I go into the castle. I would like to never, ever, have to clean my room. It is so unpleasant.” “Don’t worry Becca.” said Papa Leprechaun. “I will fix that for you and leave some magical surprises if that is okay.” Page |5 Lenny the Leprechaun Becca agreed and they all went down to the Royal Leprechaun Castle. Becca took some of the golden dust from the locket and sprinkled it on herself. She immediately shrunk down to the same size as Lenny and was able to walk inside. It was amazing! There was gold and jewels everywhere and many other leprechauns. They walked through the castle, and Lenny explained everything. Becca was speechless. After they got all the way through the castle, Becca returned to normal size. It was dinner time, and Becca said good-bye and thanks to Lenny for the amazing adventure. Then she went home. The first thing she did when she got there was to go to her room. It was amazing! Papa Leprechaun had made her room look almost exactly like the rooms in the Royal Leprechaun Castle! She went downstairs, had macaroni and cheese for dinner and that night slept in here now golden royal bed. Her Mom never found out how her room got that way and she never asked her to clean up her room again. Becca never told anyone (including her Mom) the secrets of the leprechauns. They all lived happily and leprechaun-like ever after.
