A Color Primer That Doesn't Nail the Colors submitted by Meginator on July 4, 2022, 8:51am This board book draws from Frank L. Baum’s original Oz series, which incorporates some characters and plot elements that aren’t in the famous film, following the general plot through color. While Adams does a fairly good job of tying specific colors together in a chronological way that adheres to the storyline, the inconsistent use of color in the illustrations makes the book surprisingly confusing for such a simple premise. Bright red poppies inexplicably appear on the page dedicated to yellow, despite also being featured prominently when red comes around, and I initially thought the page for tan was actually for purple; accent colors are often as prominent as featured colors, which can be incredibly confusing in a color primer. This book might be a good choice for someone who is familiar with the original book series, but I found it a bit difficult to parse.
