Lacks Story submitted by Meginator on July 10, 2023, 11:32pm Despite its excellent character design and bold colors, this book’s lack of direction and story made it fall completely flat for me. I do think some readers will appreciate its inherent silliness, but I wanted a little more development on the premise and different types of jokes; I couldn’t figure out why I was supposed to care that the chicken has new socks, although I suppose I’m happy for him. Additionally, this might prove a difficult read-aloud choice for some because of the decision to use a font that doesn’t include the bottom hook on the “j”, instead making it appear like an elongated lowercase “i”. I’ve read and greatly enjoyed some of Bob Shea’s other books, but this one was, unfortunately, a big disappointment.
